There was a moment last week when it felt as if summer might be trying to slip away early, and I was not ready for it at all.
Luckily the garden has a way of arguing back. The dahlias are looking gorgeous, I have a new favourite combination every five minutes and there are still plenty of flowers that feel gloriously high summer rather than remotely autumnal.
I had one of those unexpectedly fun garden moments this fortnight too, the sort of thing that reminds you how much joy this whole space can bring beyond the jobs list.
So for now I am choosing to believe summer still has some life in it, and I am going to keep cutting flowers and pretending not to notice the evenings shortening.
