The rose border has finally woken up

June has started exactly as I want it to, with gentle morning light, birdsong and the first sense that the garden is really filling out. The rose border took its time getting going this year, but in the space of a week it has suddenly erupted into bloom.

There are still messy corners of course, and I do think it is good to say that out loud because this is usually the point where gardens start looking deceptively effortless online. In reality I am still catching up on overdue jobs, admiring accidental combinations, and being reminded how much movement and scent matter once the garden really starts doing its thing.
