Already thinking about next spring

I have shifted firmly into next-year mode now, even while this year's dahlias are still doing their best. Sweet rocket has been sown again, I am trying hand pollination for the first time, and I am already adding more of the plants I know I will be grateful for once spring comes round.

Autumn is always full of that slightly odd overlap of seasons where you are still cutting flowers while planning bulbs, wallflowers and alliums. I have also filled my mum's vase with flowers from the garden, which felt like a small, quiet thing to do and exactly the right thing all the same.
