I know January is technically the start of the year, but in gardening terms September often feels more significant. This is when I start sowing for next year, looking properly at what worked, and deciding what I want more of and what I really do not need to repeat.
Hardy annuals are back on the list, calendula remains one of the easiest and most satisfying things to autumn sow, and I am already thinking about borders for next spring and early summer. There is still plenty flowering now of course, but my head has definitely moved on to what the garden might become next.
